Volleyball was introduced to Special Olympics in 1983 and is a Fall Sport for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. Volleyball events combine both team and individual skills competitions. Training Season is usually from August to November.

***Delaware County hosts 2 separate volleyball trainings (Sunday and Monday). Sunday training takes place in Aston, while monday training takes place in Newtown Square. All athletes are welcome to participate in both (or just one). Please see details below on each training location.***

Sunday TRAINING - Neumann University (Aston)

SOPA Season: Fall (Jul – Nov)

What to Expect: Volleyball teams consist of 6v6 and skills.

Training Specifics: Sunday’s from 5-730pm at Neumann University (Aston) gym starting in mid-July. Timing shifts to 2-530pm starting in September.

Competition Dates: (1) Eastern Fall Sectional @ Desales University on Sunday, October 4th, 2020. (2) Fall Festival @ Villanova University on November 6-8th, 2020.

Equipment: We will provide all the required equipment.

Uniform Requirements: We will provide athletes with a uniform. Athletes are responsible for all other athletic apparel. Sneakers must be worn.

Monday Training - Ellis Athletic Center (Newtown Square)

Training Specifics: Monday’s from 630-8pm at Ellis Athletic Center (Newtown Square) starting in mid-July.

**IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS** 

ALL athletes must have a current medical (on Special Olympics PA medical form) that runs through the end of the season. If the athlete medical is not up-to-date, athletes WILL NOT be able to participate. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this rule since it poses a safety risk to the entire program. An up-to-date medical must always be on file with the coach as well as sent to the program manager for filing.

ALL athletes must attend at least 8 trainings and participate in qualifiers to be eligible to compete in State Games (Summer Games/Fall Festival/Indoor Winter Games).

ALL athletes can participate in multiple sports during the same season, but must declare a primary sport for State Games (Summer Games/Fall Festival/Indoor Winter Games).
