All Class A volunteers must be certified in Protective Behaviors, Concussion Awareness, and General Orientation. These training’s must be completed every three (3) years. We recommend that all volunteers register as Class A rather than Class B (event volunteer).
Current volunteers can renew their online training for protective behaviors and concussion training by visiting the new Special Olympics Pennsylvania online portal. In the same portal, you can see the status of your background clearances, the expiration date included and the status of any sports coach certifications you have attained. You can also change your contact information and password.
Proceed to SOPA’s portal here: https://vsys.specialolympicspa.org/. Your User ID is your email address you have previously used with Special Olympics. If you have forgotten your User ID, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Click on the “Forgot password” and follow the instructions to create a new password.
To become and continue to be a head coach, sport specific training must also be completed. To get certified, follow up with the program manager or competition coordinator. Other trainings are available on Autism Spectrum Disorders, Coaching Special Olympics Athletes, First Aid, Fit 5, Principles of Coaching, Unified Sports, and more.
